SUFFRAGETTE-STYLE PENDANT with Amethyst, Peridot and Pearls

Our newest pendant design is the Suffragette Style pendant which is stylized after the suffragette jewelry of the Edwardian period. We used the Peridot, Pearls and Amethyst gemstones which symbolized the Green, White, and Violet colors that were said to be used in the suffragette movement - Give Women The Vote.

This large, gorgeous pendant measures a full 2" long and 1" wide with a 2.4 carat faceted oval amethyst in the center, surrounded by round pearls and faceted peridot gemstones, and ends with a 1.1 carat pear-cut peridot drop. All 925 sterling silver with an antiqued background which highlights the gemstones.

About Amethysts

Traditionally, the color purple is the color of royalty. The purple amethyst has been used since the dawn of history to adorn the rich and powerful monarchs and rulers. Leonardo Da Vinci wrote that amethyst was able to dissipate evil thoughts and quicken the intelligence. And, because amethyst was thought to encourage celibacy and symbolize piety, the amethyst gemstone was very important in the ornamentation in the churches in the Middle Ages. Amethyst was the gemstone of bishops and they still often wear amethyst jewelry.

About the amethyst: The ancient Greeks left us this myth about how the amethyst got it's color. The angry Greek god, Bacchus, swore to have his tigers eat the first person he saw, and he had his beast attack a girl a girl named Amethyst. The girl called to goddess Diana, who changed her into a statue to save her. Bacchus was then sorry for Amethyst and poured wine on her stone image, staining it purple, creating the amethyst gemstone.
