Jewelry marked 925 is also known as "925 sterling silver jewelry" and is labeled as such because it is 92.5 percent pure silver. The remaining 7.5 percent of alloy is used to strengthen the silver. If the silver content was higher, the silver in your jewelry would be too soft, it would bend and show marks. 92.5% silver is an industry standard which keeps your silver bright and shiny, yet tough and long-lasting.
